Blood and Mistletoe: The History of the Druids in Britain - Ronald Hutton

So much of 16th to 18th century intellectualism in Britain apparently can be summed up as "this guy was totally going to drop an unparalleled magnum opus and change the very fabric of academia, buuuuuut then he died/went mad."


I'm also curious if "went mad" is an euphemism for "contracted syphilis."
